My coworkers and I were talking about our age variance and our respective love lives today. The topic came up as the next oldest (as I am the youngest by a few years) has taken to a guy my age and evidently goes through A LOT with him. the eldest is thinking she's a hopeless romantic. And thus, the discussion progressed. So to mark my return to this blog, I offer some thoughts on hopeless romance
"You're a hopeless romantic in a world with no hope or romance"
"I'm a hopeless romantic who has discovered that romance is hopeless"
"Not to be with the one you love, the one person you should be spending your life with - its like a kind of living death. To wake up every morning and know you are still here; To have that brief, sweet moment of blankness, before your mind reminds you who you are, why you're unhappy. It's like hell - a living hell of the heart's own making"
"She had realized that they couldn't be together. She didn't wan to make a romantic drama out of it...even though she felt as if something fundamental, deep within her, had been taken away. She was simply trying to cope, to get on with her normal life. Which she knew was something he could not be part of"

Sometimes
"Sometimes you cant do for others, seeing that they wont do for you, sometimes you cant think of others, seeing that they aren't thinking of you and all the time you cant care about someone if its obvious they don't care about you"
oooh...a lesson i've learned ALL too well in the past two months. time to cut. the. cord.

Purpose
"Nothing contributes so much to tranquilize the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye." - Mary Shelley
